Our Story
Why We Started
Before our wedding, Priya searched for a Mangalsutra that felt both modern and true to tradition. She longed for a piece she could honour her heritage with, yet wear every day as part of her own identity. A year later, with the birth of our daughter Mia, new questions arose: what will tradition and culture look like for her generation? From those questions, &mia was born: jewellery that honours the past, belongs to the present, and creates new traditions for tomorrow.
What the Mangalsutra Means
For us, jewellery has never been just an accessory. It carries memory, meaning, and the quiet weight of culture passed from one generation to the next. The Mangalsutra in particular holds deep significance, a thread that ties love, family, and identity together. Yet when we searched, we couldn’t find pieces that reflected who we were: modern, global, proud of our roots but determined to shape our own path.
Designing For Today
That tension, between honouring tradition and living fully in the present, is what inspired us to create &mia. Our pieces are designed for women like Priya, and for the next generation like Mia: women who want to celebrate heritage, but also claim the freedom to redefine it on their own terms.
Every design begins with a conversation: what does this symbol mean, how has it been worn, and how can it evolve while retaining its soul? The result is jewellery that blends timeless forms with clean, modern design, versatile enough to wear every day, meaningful enough to hold close for a lifetime.
Our Promise
We believe that culture is not static. It grows and adapts, just as families do. What matters is not keeping things frozen in the past, but carrying their essence forward in ways that feel true to who we are today. With &mia, we are creating jewellery that speaks to that living culture: respectful of heritage, yet unafraid to be contemporary.
More than anything, this brand is personal. It was born from our own love story, our wedding, and the arrival of our daughter. It is a promise to her, and to all daughters, that tradition can be something to cherish, not something that confines. That the jewellery you wear can connect you to where you come from, while also giving you the freedom to shape where you are going.
This is what &mia stands for: a bridge between past, present, and future. Jewellery created with care, made to be worn with pride, and designed to carry your story forward.
